Most people try to solve problems based on how they feel or what they do, only to find that those changes are short lived or unattainable. Biblical Counseling goes to the heart of the matter because that’s where lasting change begins.

What is Biblical Counseling?

Biblical Counseling is “speaking the Truth" in love, with the compassion of Christ, in such a way that will help people make lasting changes in their lives that will bring glory to the Lord. 1 Thes. 5;14 says, "And we urge you, beloved, to admonish the idlers, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with all of them." Sometimes people need encouragement. Other times they may need to be admonished, discipled, comforted, and/or strengthened. Biblical Counseling is based on God’s Word, not man’s philosophies (Colossians 2:8). That's why this type of counseling works if someone is ready to make a change!

  • The one model of Biblical Counseling is based on Ephesians 4:22-24 which says, “You were taught with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your mind; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.” This is the “Put Off, Put On” dynamic that helps us, as creatures of habit, to “put off” the old habits of living, and replace them, by putting on the new habits that are pleasing to the Lord because the motive of our heart is to please and honor Him with our life.

  • The goal of Biblical Counseling is for the counselee to learn to honor God with his or her life. One of the benefits is that the counselee will learn to develop the fruit of the Spirit but that is NOT THE GOAL, only a result! Biblical Counseling works with believers and non-believers because it begins with heart assessment.
